[Review] – The Crucible

Silence, only a murmuring in a foreign language can be heard. Rhythmic, low, hypnotizing.
It comes closer, closer, closer. The darkness brightens as a young, black woman enters, holding a small cauldron in her hands, still murmuring the words in an unknown language. She crosses the stage in the same rhythm as her singing.
Soon she is accompanied by more and more people, each and every one heading for one of the chairs placed on the stage. Around 20 actors, around 20 chairs – yet not a word spoken. The physicality of this first scene of Yael Farbers version of „The Crucible“ is incredibly strong and drags the viewer right into the play.

I’m going on an adventure!

Yes, once more I started an adventurous journey to meet one of my favourite actors and one of the actors of my so beloved Hobbit trilogy.
Originally it wasn’t planned to go on that trip to watch THE CRUCIBLE, it was more of a spontaneous decision. A couple of my friends – Astrid, Aneta and Petra – had already booked and because I got a couple of days off of work I decided to join them. And what can I say: I was a good decision! Very good, indeed!

“The Crucible” on stage

Oh my god! I totally can’t believe it.
I am going to see Richard Armitage live on stage. This is a dream come true.

Richard Armitage has been one of my favourite actors for quite some time now. Not only is he good-looking, but also very talented. No matter ehich character he portrays, it’s always about the personal background, the emotionality of them. And he brings everything into a role, that makes a show worth watching.

At the Old Vic Theatre he is going to portray John Proctor, a farmer, who has had an affair with a young woman now accused of being a witch. The play is called “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller.
I am so looking forward to this, you can’t even imagine.
This is certainly a spontaneous decision I won’t regret.
